Garden City infant remains in critical condition after police say she was abused

An 18-month-old girl remained in critical condition Sunday at St. Lukes Regional Medical Center.

Police said the day before she was physically abused by her mother’s boyfriend. That man, Jordan Everhart, 21, was being held in the Ada County Jail, charged with felony injury to a child.

Ada County Paramedics responded to East 40th Street in Garden City Saturday afternoon after receiving a call about an unconscious infant. Shortly after they arrived, emergency workers determined the baby had suffered head trauma and called police.

Paramedics rushed the girl to the hospital, where emergency surgery was performed. Police said Everhart was babysitting the child when the injuries occurred. Police and medical personnel also determined that the injuries to the child were not consistent with Everhart's initial statements.

The court issued an arrest warrant for Everhart on Saturday afternoon. He is being held on a $500,000 bond and will be arraigned Tuesday in Ada County.
